MARTY ON THE ISSUES

  • We need measures to stop gun violence and to protect our families. Legislation needs to be passed to close gun ownership loopholes, institute universal background checks, and encourage responsible gun ownership.

  • In June 2022, the Supreme Court attacked the freedoms of millions of Virginians by taking away their constitutional right to an abortion. Without the protection of Roe v. Wade, Democrats in state government are the last line of defense in protecting abortion access.

Marty understands that abortion access is health care, and he will always fight to ensure that Virginians can make their own reproductive health decisions and that we have access to safe and legal abortions. Government should never stand between women and their healthcare, and Marty will oppose any efforts from Republicans to ban access to abortion, birth control, or to prevent women from having the right to choose.

  • Marty believes that all Virginians deserve clean, safe, and affordable housing regardless of who they are or where they come from. As your Delegate, Marty will work to invest in more affordable housing solutions, implement robust eviction prevention programs, and provide greater tenant protections.

  • As Virginia continues to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to invest in our health infrastructure. Lowering prescription costs and guaranteeing access to secure, affordable, high-quality healthcare is what Virginia deserves.

Marty believes we must build the healthcare system the American people have always deserved: one that finally provides universal health care coverage; reduces prescription drug prices, premiums, and out-of-pocket costs; reins in overall health care expenses; and tackles the deep-seated inequities in our health care system.

  • Our public schools are bedrock community institutions, and yet our educators are underpaid, our classrooms are overstuffed, and our school buildings have been neglected. We can and must do better for our children, our educators, and our Commonwealth.

As a parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent, Marty is a strong believer in the power of public education. As your Delegate, he will work to strengthen our public schools, raise teacher pay, and grant our students the competitive edge they need to succeed.

Marty’s Plan to Address Virginia’s Teacher Shortage

  • Marty understands the importance of protecting Virginia’s delicate ecosystems and will work to protect our Commonwealth’s natural beauty. Protecting our natural environments and preserving our clean air and water is of the utmost priority. That’s why Marty will work to manage and protect the environment that surrounds us as Virginia continues to grow.

Further, Marty knows we need a robust response to the threats of climate change in Virginia. Our Commonwealth needs a strong infrastructure that can mitigate the effects of severe weather - such as flooding - all the while weaning us off our reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Marty is dedicated to building an economy that works for all Virginians. That includes empowering workers and small businesses, maintaining wages that support Virginians from all walks of life, and securing equal pay for women and paid family leave for all.

  • Too often in Loudoun County, families can’t afford the cost of childcare. Marty knows that offering affordable, quality childcare will help support working families, promote gender equity, and grow our economy. Marty will work to lower the overburdening cost of childcare for our families.
